Statement of Intent – Beetastic

The aim of my portfolio, over twelve images, is to showcase the detail, colour and personality of Bumble bees when they are foraging for pollen/nectar on Lavender plants, along with the dangers that seek to prey on bees when seeking pollen/nectar on Lavender plants.

The common garden Bumble bee (genus Bombus) has a round, hairy black body with two distinct yellow bands and a colour to the tail. These colours fade with age and exposure to the sun. There are over 250 species, including Buff and White Tail. They can look very alike.

The subjects were all photographed using my Canon 100 macro lens and some cropping to offer context and different perspectives of the Bumble bee and the dangers that lurk.

Taken over the summer in my back garden. I aim to share with others my interest in these little bees.
